'Shiro' is another yellow and green variegated Japanese maple but differs from 'Sagara nishiki' in that the leaves can be "washed out" with yellow compared to a speckled yellow border like the former.
Leaf colour in spring is green with an orange or yellow tone. As summer approaches, the yellow variegation becomes more prominent, and in some cases, the yellow is more dominant. Some leaves can be totally pale yellow. Fall colours are yellows and oranges.
Acer palmatum 'Shiro' may grow to 8-10' tall and 4-6' wide in ten years.
