I'm a fan of strapleaf Japanese maples, and with good reason. They are beautiful, give a tropical vibe to your garden and patio space, different from the standard Japanese maple you see on your neighbour's lawn. 'Ao yagi gawa' is no exception. Spring colour is light green, becoming dark green and finally, fiery orange-red in the fall. The leaves may have three or five lobes. This tree may grow to be 8' or larger over time.
