Spring Where Are You?

What a cold spring season. The warm weather has been stalled. BIG TIME!  And in our backyard nursery, we are getting stalled, too.

After completing a major landscape project which involved, building new retaining walls, re-doing other walls, as well as, making the approach pathways more mellow, we grass-seeded the area and watered diligently. Well, several weeks later there wasn't much grass to speak of. Cold, rainy days, cats, a dog, many days with birds eating grass seed and even one of escaped neighbour chickens eating grass seed! It's been challenging.

Oh well, we re-seeded this past week, put a healthy layer of grass-feeding compost down, and the weather looks favourable for growing some grass. Which means soon we can have our local, by-appointment customers in. And this can't come soon enough because this is a magical time of the year for Japanese maples and maple lovers. The spring season is a great time for amazing colours, fresh, unfolding leaves and tender growth. As far as we're concerned, when it comes to Japanese maples spring is the best season and fall is the second best season. So, it's a little disappointing to not be able to share this with our customers right now.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. Whether you are a mom to three kids, or 1 dog, or just a mom to a Japanese maple, we salute you. See you soon.
