Often referred to as 'Higasa yama', 'Hikasa yama' has a fascinating unfurling effect with it's leaves in the spring. And this tree's beauty doesn't end there. Listed officially as a named Japanese maple since at least the 1880's, Acer palmatum 'Hikasa yama' is an upright, narrow tree reaching about 26' tall.
Spring leaves unfurl with reds, pinks, yellows and cream. The leaves becomes a light green with cream and pink margins. The pink fades into summer and fall colour has the creamy margins becoming orange or yellow or red tones. A spectacular tree!
